What happened to Chris Daly?

I used to be a supporter of Supervisor Daly. I admired him for his defense of the defenseless, not letting issues slide by, standing his ground. But over the last year, something has happened to him and now I think, um, well, that he's just losing his mind.

Calling for an investigation into whether or not The Sentinel has violated campaign finance laws is yet another in a long line of temper tantrums for Supervisor Daly when someone chooses to have a differing opinion. At one time, I would manage to find an excuse for his latest tantrum but as they began to add up, my excuses got weaker and weaker. Pat Murphy changed his opinion about Supervisor Daly -- and so have I. I now find him a boorish, immature lout with anger management issues. It overshadows anything he can accomplish during the rest of his tenure.

I certainly hope Supervisor Daly has no plans for higher office. It's one thing to be a street activist and behave in a certain way. But when the public elects you to represent them, whether it's at the local, state, or national level, you are expected to rise to a certain level of decorum. This means no public temper tantrums with people who hold a different opinion from yours. It's unbecoming whether you are the vice president of the United States, the wife of a presidential candidate, or a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.

Let's imagine Supervisor Daly as the mayor of San Francisco. What would it look like if Mayor Daly publicly called Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa a punk ass bitch? Or imagine Assembly Member Daly publicly threatening a fellow assembly member with a kick in the ass? Or Assembly Member Daly publicly telling a constituent to fuck off? Is this who you want representing you? I doubt it. Supervisor Daly needs some anger management counseling, and most of all, he needs to grow up.

That's how I roll.
